Deciding to adopt is a big decision for any family and one of the first steps to getting started is a Home Study.  A Home Study is a comprehensive report about the family and the home environment. The requirements vary by state and depend upon the country you are adopting from.  The home study must be completed with a licensed agency or contracted social worker in the state where you live.  Regardless if you are adopting through a domestic or international program, a home study will be required.

KidsFirst has over 16 years of experience in adoption and with the home study process. We have licensed social workers on staff and our Executive Director, Inna Pecar, is available to meet with families as needed or requested. To get started, families complete an application and agreement with KidsFirst. We provide families with detailed information about the process, fees, and what to expect, so you feel prepared. There are 2 meetings in our office and 1 meeting in your home. You will need to submit a number of documents that are required including financial records, birth certificates, physical health reports, and autobiographies and each family member will be interviewed. You will also complete several background checks.  Half of the home study fee is due at the first appointment and the other half is due at the final appointment. We will answer your questions and walk you through every step!  Once all of the meetings have taken place and all of the documents are submitted, we will prepare your home study report.  You, along with your placing agency, will have an opportunity to review and approve the report before it is finalized. We will provide you with as many original reports as you need.

Our average time (from start to finish) to complete a home study is 6-8 weeks. KidsFirst is a Hague Accredited agency, since 2008, so we have extensive knowledge about Hague requirements and international adoption. We pride ourselves in not just looking to approve a family to adopt, but to do our best to advocate for and get to know the families we work with. Adoption is our passion and we work hard to provide the best experience possible throughout the process.  To learn more about home studies through KidsFirst, contact us!  317-843-2300 or sgee@kidsfirstadoption.com
