Waiting International Children

Meet KidsFirst children waiting for adoptive families

Just a Few of Our International Waiting Children

We have hundreds of children who are waiting for the family. It is not possible for us to post them all! We want to invite potential adoptive parents to schedule time with us so that we can get a better understanding what their hopes are, what would be a good fit for their family and start talking to our coordinators and partners oversees.

Steve, Tanya and Cara

Country – Eastern Europe

Sibling group of three, the boy is 13, the girls are 11 and 9.

Children are separated in to two foster homes because officials had a difficult time to find a foster family to keep all the kids together. Girls live in the country and can care for chicken, ducks, cats, dogs. They are also familiar with larger animals like horses and cows. Boy lives in a separate foster family. He is a little shy at first, but gradually relaxes. The child is an excellent student in the local school. He wants to study in a bigger city with more teachers and more children. His favorite subjects are mathematics, chemistry and geography. He wants to become a football player – he plays after school with his friends every day.

All three children are full of energy, curious and respect established authorities. Middle sister has a little bit more difficulty in school but all three of them have a great potential.

We would love to advocate for these children and to find a family where it will be a great fit for everybody involved, children and the family.

Valera age 15

Eastern Europe

Lives in foster family. He is healthy, curious and has well developed memory. He is expressive, open and calm in communication with others.

In the foster family, there are conditions for enriching the imagination. The child has access to age-appropriate activities, as well as the opportunity to play and interact with people of different ages and social status.

Valera has younger sister and older brother. We always try to keep siblings together but because children are older authorities in their country of origin allowed children to be adopted separately. Again, we would love to find the right family where at least two siblings can be together in case older brother ages out.

This agency will provide as much information as possible to make sure adoptive parents can make as informed decision as possible.

Alex, 3 years 9 months.

Eastern Europe

This agency will provide as much information as possible about the special needs of this child.

  1. Psychological status
  • Inceptions and imaginations: The child has an incomplete perception of sensations and insufficiently developed perceptions.
  • Attention: involuntarily, appearing under strong, intense external factors
  • Intelligence: lags behind in neuropsychological development in all indicators
  • Memory: Memory is mostly short-term
  • Thinking: Mental operations are poorly developed due to the child’s age and condition.
  • Intellect: CoR-26
  • Space and time orientation

  1. Emotional development: The child enjoys contacts with adults he knows and likes and initiates contacts with them himself. Delights when praised by an adult when he repeats a demonstrated action with the toys and claps his more mobile left hand on the other. When his toy is taken away, he defends his possession. He tries to interact with the children around him. Reacts with displeasure when something is forbidden or refused. He wants to keep everything to himself.
  2.  He shows preferences for certain adults, enjoys contact with them and initiates them himself. He observes the actions of children in a parallel space, tries to interact with them. He is happy when he observes the actions of adults towards other children.
  3. Play activity: He performs specific actions with the toys. The child reacts with excitement when performing musical songs or music from musical toys and when performing with his eyes actions in musical games. He likes to pass a ball to an adult and have him return it himself in a cooperative game.

Name Nazar

DOB September 2015

Eastern Europe

Nazar has been living in the orphanage since June 2019. Nazar is opened for adoption although he does not believe somebody would want to adopt him due to his health condition. Nazar is a very open, friendly child. He suffers from Cerebral Palsy. His general knowledge is impressive compared to his peers. His emotional and social development is also age appropriate. In the last few months, the boy has made a tremendous progress in both gross and fine motoric. He can walk with a walker or holding somebody’s hand, he walks up and down the stairs with the use of the rail. He still prefers crawling or wheelchair, because it’s faster, but he keeps working on being able to walk independently. His fine motoric is also slightly behind – he can perform all the activities with his peers, but the quality may be somewhat lower. He takes care of his own hygiene, like brushing his teeth and taking a shower, uses the toilet. He eats meals without any help. He can climb a trampoline, draws patterns, cuts paper. His physiotherapy center says he is eager to work during therapy and is very motivated. Nazar has self-esteem issues associated with his disability and is therefore afraid of rejection by potential adoptive parents. Nazar likes individual contact.

We are trying to find the right family for this child.

Name: Olesya

DOB: August 2014

Eastern Europe

Olesya has been living in her orphanage since March 2017 due to educational and foster dysfunction in her biological family.

Olesya’s biggest strength are her practical skills. She is very independent, Olesya does all age-appropriate chores with no help from adults. She can clean her room, eats meals at a table with other children, attends to her morning and evening hygiene. She knows her whereabouts in preschool and attends extra classes that they offer. During summer 2021 trip with other children from the orphanage, Olesya was very well oriented in available activities (going to the swimming pool, going to the beach, playroom, or ship cruise) and situations (choosing her breakfast at the cafeteria, unpacking her suitcase, recognizing hotel’s staff and people who accompanied orphanage’s staff). The girl knows rules of the road: when to stop to cross the street, knows colors of the streetlights and how to observe them. She can pick goods in store when she does grocery shopping with an adult, she finds candy and everyday use items. She recognizes places she has been to. Knows her way back home from places she regularly visits.

She attends a preschool for children with special needs. Social skills: knows group rules and follows them, makes proper contact with her peers and adults. When she talks to an adult she maintains contact, she follows staff’s instructions and proposed activities and tries to talk about activities that the group does. Sporadically, some balance issues were observed, which originates in encephalopathy that she was diagnosed with. Her encephalopathy causes overall development delay (her skills are age appropriate in some areas), walking issues, speech impediment; also, cerebellum structure abnormalities were observed. Her cognitive skills would be her weakest point. Last psychological test (performed in February 2021) stated she was a child with mild intellectual disability. This means that she needs individualized approach in education and her educational process should consider her strong and weak areas.

Olesya is eager to take part in play-pretend and activities that require movement. She likes playing charades. She likes playing in the playground: sliding, swinging, and climbing tree houses). She likes simple board games and Memory, and Dobble. She likes playing “home” and “police” with other children. She like arts and crafts: cutting shapes, play-doh or drawing.

This agency is advocating for this child and trying to find the right family.

When interacting with his peers, Victor is well-intentioned and shows no aggression towards them.

Victor can eat independently with a spoon. He does not wear diapers and is able to use the toilet by himself.

Name: Vadik

DOB: July 2015

Diagnosis: Childhood hemiplegia, right-sided. Epilepsy. Convergent strabismus. Hypermetropia

The child goes to kindergarten and is well received by the children there. He likes to stick stickers, colors carefully without leaving the outline, likes constructors. He has learned the basic colors, can count to 10, colors and sticks stickers with his left hand. There is a tendency for the right hand to remain more curled. But when he’s on the swing, he holds on with both hands. He knows some songs.Vadik talks, including with a stranger /our collaborator/, answers the questions, asks questions himself, comments on his activity, performs tasks set by our collaborator, including “Find and take a black pencil!”, “What color is the pencil you choose now?”

The foster mother is a retired, with adult sons and grandchildren who live in another town. The woman is very strict, she deals with him a lot, takes him to check-ups and rehabilitation. She will be glad if it will be possible to find a family and to adopt Vadik before he starts school in September 2023.
