Re-adoption is the formal registration of a foreign adoption in a United States court. This process establishes the child's legal residence in that State. Finalizing an adoption with the courts is typically an easy process, and is the only way for a child to obtain a U.S. birth certificate. The new birth certificate will include the names of the adoptive parents.
This is an important step of the adoption process upon returning home. The U.S. birth certificate may be required for many things in the future: enrolling in school, obtaining a driver’s license, applying for a passport, etc. We suggest that you complete this process as soon as possible to ensure your child has the proper paperwork into adulthood.
