Pregnant with No Support? You Are Not Alone

Finding out about an unintended pregnancy can feel overwhelming. Finding out you may have to face it without the support you expected can make everything feel even harder.

You may not be able to count on the baby’s father, or you may be worried about money. You may not know where you will live or how you will get to medical appointments. You may be wondering how you can possibly care for a baby on your own.

You do not have to figure everything out today.

KidsFirst is here to listen, answer your questions, and help you understand your options without judgment. Calling us does not mean you have to choose adoption or make an adoption plan.

Your conversation is private. You can call or text us 24/7 at 317-518-3032.

What Kind of Help Do You Need Right Now?

Maybe you know exactly what you need. Maybe you only know that you need help. Start there.

Tell us what is happening and what you are worried about. We will listen. You do not need to have the right words or know what you want to do about your pregnancy before you call.

KidsFirst can help connect you with financial and community resources. We can provide transportation to medical appointments, connect you with mental health resources, and help you navigate insurance and apply for coverage.

If you have questions about adoption, we can answer those too.

Every woman’s situation is different. You may need help with one immediate problem, or you may be trying to make a much bigger decision about what happens after your baby is born. We will start with where you are right now.

You can call even if you are not sure what you need. You can ask anything.

Pregnant with No Support from the Father? You Still Have Options

Going through pregnancy without support from the baby’s father can be hard. You may have expected him to help financially, go to appointments, prepare for the baby, or simply be there for you.

If he is not involved, you do not have to handle everything by yourself.

KidsFirst can help you look for resources and talk through your options. If you are thinking about adoption, you can also ask us what the biological father’s involvement may mean for the adoption process.

What If I’m Pregnant and Struggling Financially?

Money may be one of the biggest things keeping you awake at night.

How will you pay for groceries? What about medical care? Rent? Transportation? What happens when the baby arrives?

Being pregnant and struggling financially does not mean that you have to choose adoption. Programs such as WIC, SNAP, Medicaid, 211, and other community resources may be able to help with food, healthcare, housing, and other needs. KidsFirst can also help connect you with resources based on your situation.

However, if you are considering adoption, Indiana law allows certain financial assistance. KidsFirst’s current guidance states that up to $4,000 in support may be available for certain expenses, with assistance available through six weeks after delivery.

We can explain what assistance may be available to you and help you find other resources in your community.

What Are My Pregnancy Options?

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy without much support, you may be hearing a lot of opinions about what you should do.

The decision is yours.

Your options may include parenting, adoption, or abortion. Take time to get accurate information and understand what each choice could mean for you.

If you want to parent but are worried that you do not have enough support, there may be programs and community resources that can help.

If you want to learn about adoption, KidsFirst can answer your questions. You do not have to choose adoption just because you call us. You can learn what an adoption plan would look like and decide whether it is something you want to consider.

If you are considering abortion, talk with a licensed medical provider about the options and services available where you live.

An unplanned pregnancy can make your future feel uncertain. But you still have a voice about what happens next.

Considering Adoption? You Decide What Happens Next

If you decide you want to explore adoption, we will help you understand each step before you make decisions.

An adoption plan is personal. It begins with talking about what you want for yourself and your child.

If you decide to move forward, you can review profiles of KidsFirst’s approved waiting families. You choose the family you feel comfortable with for your baby. You can also meet a prospective adoptive family if you would like to get to know them before making your decision.

Together, we can talk about what you want your hospital experience to look like and create a hospital plan. You can also discuss what kind of relationship you hope to have with your child and the adoptive family after placement.

KidsFirst’s adoption planning process can include choosing and meeting a family, creating a hospital and post-placement plan, and arranging for pictures and updates when those are part of the plan you choose.

We will be here to answer your questions throughout the process.

Can I Stay in Contact with My Child After Adoption?

Yes. If you choose adoption, you can talk with KidsFirst about the kind of relationship you hope to have after placement.

An open adoption may include ongoing contact such as pictures, updates, or visits. A semi-open adoption generally provides some communication while maintaining more privacy. A closed adoption does not include ongoing contact.

There is no single arrangement that is right for everyone.

KidsFirst offers open, semi-open, and closed adoption options. We work with you and the potential adoptive family to create a plan with clear expectations about future contact.

Tell us what you hope for. We will listen.

What If I’m Close to Delivery or Already Had My Baby?

It is not too late to get help.

Maybe your due date is days away and you do not know what you are going to do. Maybe you are already at the hospital. Or perhaps you brought your baby home and have realized that parenting is not something you can manage right now.

You can still call KidsFirst.

If you decide you want to create an adoption plan after delivery, KidsFirst may be able to put a plan together quickly. Our current guidance states that an adoption plan can sometimes be established within an hour after delivery, although the timing of placement can depend on hospital policies and your individual circumstances.

We also help parents considering adoption for children beyond the newborn stage.

If you need help now, you do not have to wait until tomorrow.
